When I started Girl Talk y Más Podcast over a year ago, I had no idea where the road would lead me or if it would even go anywhere! I always had this creative itch to share empowering stories. I initially started the empowering women segment on my blog and learned so much from the interviews that I had done, I wanted to share it in a bigger and better way!
When I met my co-host Elisa Kern through Instagram, I shared my idea with her and knew I found the perfect podcast partner that wanted to empower others just as much as I did, and Girl Talk y Más was born! Over the last year we learned a lot and connected with so many listeners that have supported and kept us inspired to keep sharing. We even kicked off a merchandise line and have more collabs coming out soon. So I wanted to share my podcasting tips that have helped us grow into a successful podcast platform! Here are my 3 tips that you need to know before you start your podcast and my checklist to help you get started!
- Bring Value to Your Listeners – Building a stable podcast starts with having a valuable topic. There are so many ways to connect with others. Some of the most successful podcasters create platforms from sharing stories, like murder mysteries to having interview and inspiration segments. It’s not rocket-science, find what you love and share it! There is most likely an audience interested in listening!
- Don’t See Other Podcasters as Competition– One of the silliest things you can do is compare your platform to others. There are plenty of podcasters out there, and believe me there will be some that are doing something similar to yours! Like my co-host always says “I’m in competition with myself” Build your own craft, perfect your platform and success is bound to happen!
- Engage with Your Listeners – Along with sharing your stories, make sure you interact and reach out to your listeners. Try posting a question on your social media page and sharing the feedback in a episode is a great way to engage! Encourage your listeners to email or message you with feedback. It’s a great way to include your listeners in your podcast and perfect your platform.
